One of the best parts of Ludevic, Necro-Alchemists ability is that it doesnt specify combat damage, so spellslinger commanders, burn decks, or life drain decks have just as much chance of getting extra cards with this partner in play as more combat-heavy builds
It may be hard to pull off, but it provides more value than just the Treasure depending on the situation
-sigh- Commanders emphasis on color identity in deckbuilding has successfully kept Krrik, Son of Yawgmoth from being a huge problem in the format as a whole, but its still a powerhouse that should be removed or countered on sight against decks with a large or exclusive emphasis on black, as 4 mana can easily become as much as 16, more if life gain enters the equation
You see, you only lose the life if you actually draw the card and don't replace it
Thanks to this rarity, The One Ring was quickly seen as the ultimate MTG collectible
Many variations on how to implement the mechanic are already on display in the set, and I already find myself hopeful that well see the mechanic return in the future and explored further
